Making a connection with this DIY Offbeat Delta Wedding couple was easy! They are super chill. Plus, it seems like Tam & Riley have a lot in common with me, and my boyfriend. Tam and I studied at the same art school and got to know each other while working at the college café. Riley and my boyfriend both are very excited about the Warmachine world. (For those of you wondering what on earth Warmachine is, think miniature figures, dice, cards + room of nerds. Cute nerds, of course!).
Tam and Riley are crazy for tabletop games. And it was so awesome to see them make that part of their life a central theme for their big day. Tam kicked off their theme during her walk down the isle — she had added a little purple side bustle to her wedding dress as homage to the Steampunk genre. Eeep! Super cute!
The ceremony was warm and wonderful. Family and friends that surround these two were just as special as they were. They were laid-back, friendly and amazingly approachable. And, family had surprised them with a sweet vintage car for the bride & groom to be driven around in – adding a ton of WOW to their theme!
We drove out to Deas Island to get some quiet time and a few photographs of the couple sharing their first glass of bubbly, as husband and wife. Their wedding party joined in for a few silly shots. And, Deas Island, it was AH-mazing, it’s like a tiny wilderness oasis that instantly ensures you forget you are in the middle of an industrial flatland. It’s a fave part of my day when we find green spaces near a venue.
Getting back to such a loving group of family and friends at the Delta Country Inn reception was wonderful! T&R had arranged for one of their favourite board games at every table – it was insane how much fun everyone was having. But, I’ll bet the guests never thought that their meal time would be determined solely on how well they performed at dice and a resulting task. Or based on their knowledge of these two, maybe they were expecting exactly that…Teehee.
Each guest went home with their own set of dice. Adorable!!!
Tam is working toward a career as a conceptual artist, so she loves creating and as you can tell has customized certain details of her big day from her wedding dress to the details of her own cake! When she told me that she made the cake toppers, I was so excited. Aren’t they super cute?!
The atmosphere that night was magical. And sometimes hysterical. As you can see, Riley caught the bouquet, but too many people thought he should be disqualified and so back it went to be thrown yet again. Three tosses later, it got into the hands of someone deemed qualified by the crowd.
A huge thank you goes to Tam & Riley for welcoming Family Creative Imagery into their Steampunk world to photograph their family and friends enjoying their love. If you’re getting married in 2017, we still have a few spaces in our schedule. We’d love to get to know you in your Love & Adventure session – similar to Tam & Riley’s Gastown Engagement Session. Take a look at their session and then give us a shout.
