Being not only a wedding photographer, but also a Vancouver maternity photographer, I think it’s super cool when we have the chance to see our client’s relationships grow over the years. You may even remember these simple homebodies, who love a great meal and a good TV show, from the first time we met at their Love & Adventure Session and then their Brockhouse wedding.
Not long after these two were married, Evelyn reached out to Family Creative Imagery to say they were ready for a maternity photography session. Yay! Meg and I were super excited to hear that they were expecting. I mean, how many other entrepreneurs get to follow a family from engagement to wedding day and from baby bump to first child–and beyond.
In our planning chat, Evelyn shared with me that she loves to hang out in White Rock with Chris, and so I suggested that we make the trip out there to shoot their maternity session. On the day of the session, they were driving from Abbotsford and I was coming from Burnaby. And, because it’s no small trek, I looked at the gloomy weather and considered postponing.
As I jumped in the car, the weather was clearing nicely and I was feeling excited to see them again. But, as I neared Surrey, the weather suddenly turned nasty. With my wipers whipping back and forth, I pulled into a parking lot to send a quick text and give Evelyn and Chris a heads-up.
As fast as the storm arrived, it was gone again. So, we planned to meet in Abbotsford to save time and take advantage of the break in weather. We met at Mill Lake Park. It was a perfect choice. It was great timing. As their balloons flapped in the wind, we admired the green space. It was chilly, but the earthy surroundings were wonderful to look at.
After a few clicks of my shutter, Chris realized his wedding ring was missing. He took off in a hurry, and frantically ran back and forth over the playing fields that we had crossed just moments before. Evelyn and I joked about how looking for jewelry has become a theme in their lives. You must go back to Evelyn and Chris’s wedding day blog to get a sense of the scene—it was like a live comedy skit, as her sister had lost an earring in the sand during the bridal party photography session.
As Chris ran wildly around the park, Evelyn and I giggled some more and captured a few sweet shots of her standing solo, down by the lake. Chris found his ring, safe and sound, in the car. He joined us for a few more shots, and the weather held off.
Getting outdoors for a maternity photography session is perfect for us at Family Creative Imagery. Rain or shine. We’re excited to catch up with you in your favourite park or train station. Please, give us a shout!
