A few years we shot video for Rocio and her husband Chris, so when Rocio told me that she and her sisters wanted to give their mom a photo session for her birthday, I thought it was an amazing idea!!

An extended family photo session is for the whole extended family, not just an immediate family. They last a little bit longer, and you get some awesome large group photos, and then individual family units get to have portraits done too. It’s a great way to split on cost of family portraits, and makes an amazing gift!
Back to the Venidas… Mom was so excited to have all 3 of her daughters, her son-in-laws and her 3 grandchildren involved in her extended family photo session.
After it had been raining for about 2 weeks straight, we lucked out so hard with gorgeous weather!! A dose of vitamin D was what we all needed! We all met up at Jericho Beach in the west end of Vancouver late in the afternoon. Later afternoon portrait sessions are perfect because the light is much softer, and ‘glowy’, and that hour before the sun starts to set is called “Magic hour” for a reason. Photography sessions at this time of day are my absolute favourite!!
Jericho Beach is a perfect photo location too because you can get shots of the north shore mountains, the sand, and the blue sky and water. Then you turn around, and you have this great little pond, with ducks, and greenery. You can get 2 very different photo looks in the same location.
There was so much love in the whole Venida clan, so they were such a delight to photograph them!
Thank you guys for be amazing, and willing to wade through gooey mud for me! I can’t wait to make this a family tradition *wink wink!* Cheers!
